Night Out, North End, Boston

We had a wonderful dinner at Pasta E Pomodoro in the North End. Our server was fun and I loved the atmosphere and food. Yummers.

The first photo is from walking by Neptune Oysters. Another place I love but always packed on the weekends. Not sure where the chicken was but, I love ceramic chickens. Something about them.

We ended the night taking the orangeline home. The man across the way was snoozing while waiting for the train. It looks funny just to see just his head.

After dinner last night we stopped by Caffe Vittoria for dessert and after dinner drinks. It was crowded and buzzing with activity. I love this cafe, it has a wonderful european feel and it is great people watching.

I was having a little fun photographing some vintage camera that I have. One Argus and one Kodak. Every once in awhile I experiment with "through the viewfinder photos" or TTV. It is a different way of seeing your subject.

On Monday night, we had tickets to the Celtics. The tickets were a christmas gift from friend's Paul and Steph. The Celtics trounced the Orlando Magic. Of course, we had to get hotdogs and popcorn. Going to the games is always fun. Maybe we will go again.

Last Sunday, I took a walk around Dedham Square. the day before we had a storm and was looking forward to getting out of the house. I have new boots this year, which keep my feet very warm. I took out my Tilt Shift camera to take these photos. I have been practicing finding good subjects to photograph. It seems like buildings work well.

The tilt shift lens can be expensive. A good compromise is to make these on Photoshop and pick up a small camera like I have.

Below, is a Tilt shift done on Photoshop. It is fun to see the difference. This is a unique photo. Someone has stolen this bench and it is no longer in front of this historic house. Not nice!

I bought flowers to photograph. I wanted to make Valentine's cards. I hope to offer them at the Dedham Square Artist Guild. I used my Nikon macro lens. Milly was very interested in the flowers. She is very cute and I was thankful she didn't try to eat them.

Some photos of very tasty food. The first three are from Legal Seafoods which is steps from the Aquarium. Just our luck because, it was really cold and windy out. I love their fried clams

That night, I had a groupon that is about to expire so we headed over to Masona Grill in West Roxbury. Our food was delicious. I had a hard time choosing between the carrot cake and crisp for dessert. The chef was took pity on me and gave me a small slice of carrot cake and then brought out the crisp for all of us. Yum!

We had a fun visit to the Aquarium last Monday. We braved the cold temperatures and headed into Boston. I both pleased and surprised that I was able to get these shots. I love the jellyfish section of the aquarium and the touch tanks. A nice way to spend the morning.

I had some fun with my Nikon macro lens. I love that you can get so close to your subjects. It is hard to get Milly to be still. She is a very curious kitty. I find the macro works better with a tripod but sometimes, I am too lazy to bother with it and I was photographing a kitty in the moment.

I also, photographed a few plants in my yard. There is still beauty in the winter.

We finally have a bit of snow and more tomorrow. I am trying to spend some of my weekend updating my design and photo websites. It is on my list of things to do. Wish me luck, What are you plans?

I have been hanging out in the South End of Boston as of late. I met friends at Stella on Washington street. Very yummy food! With some luck, I walked by some places I had heard of but have never been like the Franklin Cafe. I hope to try the South End, Franklin soon and I am glad stumbled upon it. Sweet Cheeks

A few weeks ago, we had decided to try Sweet Cheeks, in the Fenway area, for lunch. We had walked over after our visit to the Museum of Fine Arts. We decided to try the BBQ. The meal comes with a choice of sides. There was many delicious sounding sides to choose from. It was a tough decision but, we were able to do it. The ribs and sides at Sweet Cheeks were so mouth watering. Yum! I am glad we made the trip to the Fenway area.

I also, liked the design and feel of the restaurant. Very low key and easy going. Jeff got a ring in the funky, vending machine in the bathroom. Kind of fun.

After Lunch we took a walk back to the MFA area to catch the train home. It was a nice surprise to see the Rhino Sculpture at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts with a tutu on. Love it!

We had a lovely evening at Nestlenook Farm while visiting New Hampshire. The Farm and building are all lite up for the holidays. There was ice skating, sleigh rides, hot chocolate and fire pits to keep warm. I loved all the lights and the sleigh was fun. They gave us blankets so were all pretty cozy. It was funny to see the steam off the horses bodies.

I took a drive down to North Conway Center during my New Hampshire vacation. I walked around the Conway Scenic Railroad train yard and station. The station has a gift shop and small train museum. It was so fun to look at all the vintage railroad items, tickets, and posters. Despite the wind and cold I was excited to wander the train yard and photograph the station and trains. Next time, I plan to take a ride on one of the scenic tours.

Christmas Tilt Shift

I have been fooling around with a new toy I received from my hubby for Christmas. I now own a small hand held tilt shift camera from Photojojo. It is small, portable and I love the instagram effects and not to mention tilt shift. I have only done tilt shift effects through photoshop to mixed results. I will be having fun in the next few weeks taking photos with the camera and posting them. Look for more of my experiments.

We finally made it to the new restaurant Trade in Boston. It is hard to get a reservation. We gave it a shot for lunch and viola we had at table. I loved that trade uses so many local ingredients for drinks and food on the menu. The casual but, funky and fun decor was a great addition to the our lunch experience. We plan to go back and try some more of the menu.

Dedham Square Holiday Stroll

On Friday night, was the Dedham Square Circle's Annual Stroll. It was a fun evening of lights, celebration, Santa and much more. Many of the shops had tasty goodies to eat. The square was filled with families, couples, and shoppers. There was an overall feeling of wonderful, holiday spirit!

It was also, wonderful to see the Animal Rescue league of Boston visit with some of the animals they have for adoption.

I worked at the Dedham Guild that night and strolled around to take photos of many of the shop decorated window displays. It was a festive time. I can't wait for next year!

JP Holiday Fair Report

Last Saturday, Boston Handmade participated in the JP Holiday Fair. It was a fun day of crafts, art, music and treats to eat. I really like doing this show. There is a good crowd and I also, enjoying talking with people that attend.

There were eight Boston Handmaders participating this year. Lady Dye Fiber Arts, Cody's Creations, and Cricicis Designs are all new to the fair. I was happy they were able to join us this year.

The Boston Handmade line-up includes: Lucie Wicker Photography, Kerry Hawkins Photography, Cody's Creations, City by the Sea Ceramics, Cricicis Design, Elizabeth Brennick Designs, Straynotions and Lady Dye Fiber

Boston Handmaders are also exhibiting as a group their work in two venues until January 15. In Boston, Artist Crossing and in Canton, Cristina Hurley Jewelry

Last week, Boston Handmade helped host a Holiday Workshop making ornaments at the West Elm store in Boston. Etsy requested our team to show people how to make these ornaments that they could take home and/or decorate a tree for Rosie's Place. Etsy provided the materials for all the fun. The store also hosted five local easy sellers. It was fun to see all the designs. The tree looked wonderful and festive. I think everyone had fun coloring, folding, decorating and showing their friends their creations.

Workshop, Photos

These are from a photo workshop given by Lucie Wicker.Several members of Boston Handmade attended the workshop. Lucie provided all kinds of great supplies and advice. Then we went to town creating photo creations. We had fun using canvases, modpodge, our own and lucie's photos (second photo), funky scissors, and colorful scrapbooking paper.I have tried some of these techniques on my own with only limited success. Yesterday, I think I have mastered some techniques thanks to this workshop and Lucie's guidance.

Yesterday, These super cute baby ducks visited the Dedham Square Artist Guild Gallery. They kind of had the run of the place. They were so cute, I couldn't help but take tons of photos. The ducks seemed to like to jump on my knees. They also enjoyed looking at the art, like Cindy Mootz's Monotype. We we can think they liked the art.

I took a walk around Dudley Square with my friend and fellow photographer, Cedric. He talked about the changes in the neighborhood. This neighborhood is in transition with many new buildings the city has built, such as the water Department and police station. There are so many older buildings here that will look wonderful when they are rehabed. More photos tomorrow. I look at this area in a whole new way.

Friday night, Jeff and I went to a comedy show at the Wilbur. Very fun! We walked from the Theatre District down to Chinatown. Wash your clothes and have your hair styled and cut on this same block in Rosindale. My favorite is the strings of lights all around the salon. The male haircut poster is pretty, classic too.I am working at the Dedham Square Artist Gallery today. I always love being surrounded by art

I made a stop by Brook Farm in West Roxbury this weekend. I took a little walk around this beautiful park. There was a pumpkin festival on the grounds. I got my self a nice looking pumpkin. Perfect for fall.

We stopped by The National Center of Afro-American Artists on Monday. It was closed but we had fun photographing the building and some of the sculptures in the back of the building. I would like to go back sometime when it is open and see the art inside. This wonderful building is on a beautiful piece of land.
