Vintage, Past in the Present

I love vintage and looking for vintage displays no matter where I travel. I can't help it. I am so drawn to these objects. They can be so quirky and fun. I have done many shows and some with themes. Some of those themes have been macro or nature. I do try to do themes I have not done before. I was struggling with a theme for my Artist of the Month show at the Dedham Guild. Vintage dawned on me. Wish me a successful show.

Is that your Reflection? NYC

I like to wander streets and find funky store fronts and also if there is a good reflection in the window. I have to sometimes take photos on an angle so I am not reflecting in the window. These windows and store fronts happen to be in Manhattan.

I am inspired by the book Store Front by James T & Karla L. Murray. I bought the book at the MFA, Boston Bookshop. I think I want to search for all the store fronts that still exist, profiled in the book. Sometimes, I can't put the book down.

City Signs, NYC

All over New York are some fun sign and of course, Times square has an amazing amount of billboards.

When I think of Lindy's I remember a time we tried to get breakfast there and we wanted to sit outside on their patio and the hostess actually said "no outside for you" and she sat us a very dirty table. It is comical now but not then. Sigh, we ate somewhere else.

Ever have a memory like that?

Public Sculpture, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

I love public sculpture and art. These sculptures are on the back lawn of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I hadn't seen the hunting man and pronghorn antelope sculptures before. They are just gorgeous. The man hunting and the antelope are by american sculpture, Paul Manship. They were designed in 1917. What do you think of this public art?

The Big Egg Hunt, NYC

These giant eggs at Rockefella Center are part of the Big Egg Hunt presented by Fabregé. They are decorated and fabricated by artists including people I had heard of and not heard of likeWilliam Wegman, Marc Quinn, Ralph Lauren,  Jeff Koons, Tanya Minhas, Diane Von Furstenberg and more…
You can bid on these eggs and have one for yourself. The Auction proceeds go to 100% charity.

I love this idea for public temporary art. So much fun looking at all of them and searching for them.

Little Worlds, Archive collection of New York Historical Society

Visiting the New York Historical Society was a real treat and with a lunch at Caffe Storico. My uncle had won a gift certificate to the restaurant and shared it with us. The food and service were terrific and
I loved the room.

We visited many great exhibits, including a film on the history of New York in 18 minutes. I never thought they could fit it all in there but they did and very well done at that. We visited some of the ongoing exhibits:

Bill Cunningham: Facades, in 1968, photographer Bill Cunningham embarked on an eight-year project to document the architectural riches and fashion history of New York City.

The Black Fives, This exhibition covers the pioneering history of the African-American basketball teams that existed in New York City and elsewhere from the early 1900s through 1950's.

Homefront & Battlefield: Quilts & Context in the Civil War
To mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War (1861-1865), the New-York Historical Society presents a groundbreaking traveling exhibition

The Archive collection is huge and fascinating of artifacts from the city of New York, they have everything from toys, paintings, signs, and more...

It is all about the food, NYC

This is from dinner on our Friday Night in NYC. We made a trip down to the West Village. Always fun!

We had a wonderful lunch at the New York Historical Society cafe. I recommend it. Great room food and service. I had a very delicious panini sandwich.

Dessert from Bistro La Source in Jersey City. We had a wonderful dinner with friends and family.

Bunnies and Super Heroes, NYC Windows

The top two photos are from the store PiQ in Grand Central season. Do you see why I was really attracted to this show. It was so cool and fun to wander in

These bottom three photos are from our jaunt in the Village. Every time I take photos of this shop I forget to find out what it is called. I love the windows and all the creativity that goes into it.

Fashion Reflections, NYC

I love the high brow and low brow fashion in New York. There is such a variety of fashion and accessories. Mannequins in kooky poses looking blank out into the street.
