The World's Fair 1893, Chicago

My husband and I went to the exhibit at the Field Museum, Opening the Vaults: Wonders of the 1893 World's Fair. I have to say it was pretty amazing. I am sure this is not the whole collection but gave us a great overview of what it was like to attend this fair. World's fair were a place to show off art, peoples and tribes from around the world (not the best idea), new products, and inventions. The ferris wheel debuted at this fair. It was fun to see what fascinated people at the time and I think some of these objects still do.

I also read the book "Devil in the White City"by Erik Larson which gave a great overview on the challenges of building this fair and just getting it open. The book also covered the case of the Serial Killer, H.H. Holmes. Very creepy. I heard a movie was in the works
