Ship and Whale Models, New Bedford Whaling Museum

Whale Boat

One of the many ship models
A human skeleton compared to a whale. Just in time for halloween
The Museum had some fantastic skeleton models of whales. They have the skeletons from whales washed up on shore in the New England Area. They give you a look at just how big these creatures are! Especially, compared to a human.

The Museum also has a great collection of ship models and one that is actually half the size of a real ship. It was fun to walk around the small ship. I got a feel for what it was like to be on a boat such as this

One treat was to see the actually size of a small whale boat that were used in pursuing whales. I have read the book In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick. The author describes the whale boats but it is great to see one in person. The Book is  a true story about a whale fighting back leaving the survivors of the ship wreck floating on whale boats in the Pacific. This is a fascinating book and give you a peek into the culture of Nantucket long ago and it's history of Whaling

I am so glad we don't do whaling anymore!

The Whaling City, New Bedford, MA

New Bedford is the sixth-largest city in Massachusetts, nicknamed "The Whaling City" because during the 19th century. New Bedford was one of the most important whaling and fishing ports in the world. It has a very storied history.

We wandered the historic section with my new D7100. So far, so good with the new camera. We decided to visit the city to make a visit to the Whaling Museum. A fascinating time in New Bedford's and New England's history. More photos from the museum later

We had lunch at Antonio's Restaurant and enjoyed a Portuguese meal. New Bedford has a significant Portuguese population. We don't often eat Portuguese. It was a real treat!

What is you favorite food?

Liberace, Little Birds, Rosindale

I had a little time before getting lunch with my friend, Lily and her son, Silas. Her son is a chubby, cute baby and was fun to hang around with.  I found a few things to photograph. Who doesn't like a vintage photo of Liberace. Love the suit!

The bird themed glass photo was taken at Boston Cheese Cellar. Sadly, a worker at the shop came out of the shop and a very brusk tone and asked if she could help me. I was going to buy some cheese but, that set me off balance

Has anyone else out there when yelled at for taking a photo outside a business, on public sidewalk of a store window displays? It happens to me everyone once in awhile. Of course, I could wait until they are closed and have no problems.

These were taking from my wanderings of Dedham and other venues. Fall light is the best.

Right now my camera is broken. I feel a bit lost

Febo Automat, Amsterdam

No Amsterdam visit is complete without visiting a Febo. It is an Automat and except for the fries. The Fries are double fried and very hot. You can buy hamburgers and croquettes from their automat. Th restaurants are small and the food I think is meant for street food. FEBO was originally a bakery named "Maison FEBO" Kind of ironic.

What is your favorite fast food or street food?
