Local Goodness, Dedham

Several weeks ago, I signed up for the Dedham Square Country Store's "Deep Winter" CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). I go on Sunday to pick up my veggies for the week. It has been surprising the things that are included in my share, tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, cucumber, carrots, fruit and more... It is a nice treat in the winter. When the cold of January has settled upon us.

I could buy these items at a local supermarket but, I wanted to support local agriculture. The store is run by Greg Agnew, Jr. and his father, Greg Sr., the owner of LemonThyme Farm. The Farm, along with other local greenhouse growers, are offering fresh produce every week. LemonThyme strives to produce sustainable crops. The store also sells citrus fruits and apples. The citrus fruits are from farms in Florida and the apples are from the Northwest. These farms are either organic or use sustainable growing practices.

The Dedham Square Country Store is located in the Odd Fellows building at 626 High Street (next to Nest). Stop by on Sundays if you can, it's open from 10am-2pm. Along with vegetables the store carries homemade pickles, honey, salsa, and more... They also carry pasta, eggs, milk, apple cider, cheeses, and bread along with pottery and jewelry. Look for new items as Valentine's day approaches!

I think supporting local is the way to go Kerry. Hopefully I will be growing my own soon as well.
