Out in the Harbor, George's Island
On Labor day, we took a boat out to George's Island in Boston Harbor. We walked around the island and Fort Warren. It hasn't been used as a fort since WWII. It was a prison for confederate soldiers during the civil war. The building of the fort started in 1833. It was also used to protect Boston Harbor.
The island is now part of the National Park system. It was fun to explore and imagine what it was like to live there. I am not sure it was a comfortable place to be in the winter.
More on the history here

I've been following your blog everyday. Thanks for taking me in your travels!
wow - these photos are so awesome - creepy in a really great way and the way the light bounces off the walls - so haunting I love it!! Gosh I may try to go these now myself!!
I like the photos and I like the buildings. Maybe with a good fire the stone would be nice and warm!
